After living in the area for a while now, I’ve heard about the Herbfarm and knew one day I would want to check it out. This is the kind of place that you most likely are here to celebrate something, mostly because of the hefty price tag, but also because of the reservation wait and the fact that they only have one seating a night.
Luckily, my husband got a big promotion at work and I knew exactly the place I wanted to go, the Herbfarm. So, I went online, looked at what menu they had for January, the menu continually rotates, and I was excited when I saw the theme would be “Truffle Treasure.” I used the online reservation system and booked a table, about 3 weeks out. I got a confirmation email that we were confirmed and that we would be at one of the communal tables.
The dinner finally arrived. The email told us to be there 30 minutes early to check out a tour of the wine cellar and the grounds (when it’s not cold out). We arrived about 23 minutes before our reservation and got there just in time for a cup of tea as we entered, and a small presentation and history about the Herbfarm and the herbs that’s would be incorporated in the dishes for the evening. We were then invited to make our way to the dining room where they sat us group by group. Our section of the table had a small place card with our last name on it, noting where our seats were. There was also a small framed image that read “Congrats on your promotion!” I noticed that everyone had these small framed images and if you had an event you were celebrating, you could note it on the reservation form, and it would have a blurb for whatever you were celebrating. For others who were just there to check it out, they also had a framed image with the names of the patrons welcoming them to the restaurant.
We had the first course, and afterward we were introduced to the owners, chefs, staff and the sommelier, this was about a 15-20 min presentation. They also walked us through the 9 courses, talking about everything from why they chose a specific dish to where the ingredients are from locally. I loved getting to hear about each dish and thought this presentation was a great part of the experience. I’m not going to go into each course, since every menu is different and truffle treasure has ended, but it was all great! Basically, we had a few appetizer type dishes, a couple “main” dishes and a few different dessert dishes. With your final dessert course you get to order any of their teas or coffee as well. Every course was unique, delicious and the presentation was wonderful.
They encourage you to get up and go for a walk/ feed the pigs outside (they have 2 potbelly pigs), go check out the wine cellar or even just hang out in the front room next to the big fire. I got up to do all of these things and it actually made the night fly by (even with us getting there at 6:40 pm and not leaving until 11:30 pm). They also had live music the entire time as well.
The Herbfarm is definitely an expensive dinner, but it’s more than just a dinner it’s a great experience. I’m so glad we got to finally check it out!
